Black Lives Matter

We Engage joins with those mourning George Floyd, David McAtee, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all other black victims murdered at the hands of police and we stand with those who have suffered police brutality and senseless racist violence. We stand in solidarity with those demanding answers and a better way forward.

ALL THE THINGS-THANK YOU!

We Engage and the Pinkhouse Defenders, like everyone, have been challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic. All the things. With everything going on all the time, we have just been running around doing ALL THE THINGS. And we are on kind of a “reduced operating force” as many defenders haven't been able to join us for various reasons, be it health, work or otherwise. And we miss them.

It's Not About PPE

Governor Tate Reeves may want Mississippi to be the safest place for the "unborn", but he certainly doesn't seem to care if it is safe for the rest of us.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, antis outside the Jackson Women's Health Organization have become even more aggressive, disregarding social distancing, attempting to hand patients pamphlets, but yelling about coronavirus.

#AbortionIsEssential

The declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic has changed things all over, but you know the old saying, the more things change the more they stay the same...and that certainly goes for antis and their "antics."

We have seen COVID-19 ignored by antis when they want to congregate at clinics harassing patients and escorts, ignoring pleas to stay at home, to stay 6 feet from people (including patients who are possibly pregnant), endangering the health of others, including the people they CLAIM to want to help. We even have an anti who is a doctor outside the clinic saying “I don’t care about 6 feet, y’all do.”

Harassment Isn't Protest

Smart engagement can make a positive difference for patients and their companions at clinics. But what would make a bigger difference would be if we as a culture spoke up and said this behavior by “protesters” at clinics is unacceptable. Protest isn’t yelling at patients, peeking through fences, or over fences at patients, and clinic escorts shouldn’t be necessary to make patients feel safe from harassment disguised as protest.

#MyRightMyDecision

Standing in front of SCOTUS, it becomes very real that the people in that building have the absolute power to strip you of your bodily autonomy in the next 3 months.

Amnesty International makes it clear, “Any person who does not control what happens to their body cannot be free…At the core of the issue are reproductive freedom and a person’s right to make decisions about what happens to their body.”

When They Say It Out Loud

Local street preacher, Bryan Peden, paid a visit to the clinic with his mom in tow. Though parts of this video are difficult to hear due to wind noise, it’s worth the time to watch and listen. In his camo “NASCAR preacher gear” jacket, Bryan explains what “God’s Law” as the law of the land would look like.

CRR March Forth (4th)

No shame, no stigma – abortion is healthcare, abortion is a right.

We the pro-choice people have to show up, be heard, be seen if we believe the right to safe, legal abortion is a right worth having. Speak now, because pretty soon we may not have that chance, that choice.

Lawmakers need to know pro-choice people donate; pro-choice people vote. The anti-abortion evangelical fundamentalists are showing up at state capitols and in Washington DC every day en masse to demand laws be passed for them.

Are we?

OKC THANK YOUS

The antis had “homefield advantage”, but we came to their field and represented for the pro-choice “team”. We may have been a small team, but we got the job done! We engaged antis at their very public event to let them know we will not allow their extremist agenda to go unchallenged, and the media reported to the public that there was a pro-choice presence rallying support for the right to safe, legal abortion.

To all who joined us and all who supported our efforts, we are eternally grateful. Thank you all so much for your time and efforts, they are so appreciated and so important. Until we meet again – our best to you all!

OKLAHOMA!

We Engage, as the Pinkhouse Defenders, made a conscious decision to go to Oklahoma. A lot of people wonder “why?” With all the issues going on in Mississippi, why take the time and trouble to travel to Oklahoma and stage a repro rights rally there?
