What Happens Now?

With the recent passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, there is a lot of concern about "what's going to happen to Roe v. Wade".

Recently, a local TV station came by Jackson Women's Health Organization and spoke with Kim Gibson, of the Pink House Defenders, the clinic escort group at the clinic and co-founder of We Engage.

There was plenty of reason to be concerned before her passing, but even more reason now.

Many people don't understand that if Roe is overturned, and there is now an even better chance of it, the individual states will regulate abortion.

If Roe is overturned, in Mississippi and in several other states, there are "trigger laws" that will cause abortion to become illegal immediately.

One of those states with trigger laws may be yours.

Some states will offer it, some won't. And people with money will always have access to abortion care, and people without money, won't. And people without will suffer.

Abortion is part of reproductive healthcare. Without a full spectrum of reproductive healthcare accessible to everyone who needs it, there is no reproductive justice.

Safe, legal, accessible abortion for everyone who needs it shouldn't even be a question, it should be a given if we value the health and welfare of people that need it.

It really is as simple as that. Abortion is healthcare. It is past time we treat it that way.
